I began printmaking years ago, and more recently have I engaged in the practice again at Josephine Press, in Santa Monica. When I approach a project, I come in with an inkling of an idea. In the case of the lips, it was just that. I had some reference material of women’s lips, which inspired me. I then play around with the inks, very improvisationally, subtracting and adding — then I see what happens.
